Job Requirements / Description
Postdoctoral Fellow or a Computational EngineerDescriptionPostdoctoral Fellow or a Computational EngineerGustave Roussy InstitutePosition and Project Title:Postdoctoral position in bioinformatics or computational biology to study damage induced mutagenesis in cancer.Research Environment and ProjectGustave Roussy, the first European Cancer Centre, recruits a bioinformatics or computational biology postdoctoral fellow at U981 INSERM Unit, Group of Cancer Genomics led by Dr. Sergey Nikolaev. The project is dedicated to the study of damage induced mutagenesis in skin cancer and in other cancer types. The postdoctoral fellow will have access to a unique molecular whole genome sequence dataset (DNA) for hundreds of skin tumors. Her/his mission will be to characterize mutational landscapes associated with different molecular mechanisms to improve our understanding of the mutational process in cancer. Unique data generated in the lab include genomic sequencing of (i) the cohort of patients with Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP), characterized by up to 1,000-fold increased cancer risk, (ii) the large cohort of non-melanoma skin cancers, and (iii) in-vitro and in-vivo knock-out models of XP. Model building and validation will also exploit available public databases such as TCGA, ICGC, and HARTWIG.SkillsApplicants should have experience in human genome data analysis, with a desire and capacity to acquire complementary expertise. Valued skills for this position include germline or somatic DNA variation analysis and a statistical background. The postdoctoral fellow will be self-motivated and able to work independently while actively collaborating with colleagues in the Gustave Roussy bioinformatics teams.TasksProcess the whole genome sequencing data for hundreds of cancer genomes and in-vitro and in-vivo models.Describe mutagenesis in the context of mutational signatures, and genomic features such as transcriptional and replication bias, and epigenomic covariates.Identify those features in large cohorts of sporadic cancers.PerspectivesTo apply for CNRS or INSERM starting grants, a solid doctoral and postdoctoral publication track record is necessary. The successful candidate will be supported in the long term to apply for CNRS/INSERM starting grants and positions to establish his/her own research group at Gustave Roussy.Qualifications:Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics, or machine learning.Initial fixed-term 18-month contract, with possible extension. Salary depends on experience. #J-18808-Ljbffr
