PhD/Post-doc positions on operando computational Raman imaging of battery materialsLocation: France, Paris, Rue Lhomond, KASTLER BROSSSEL LABORATORYHow to apply: Send CV, publications, summary, and references to:Hilton Barbosa de Aguiar at [email protected] Information:Background:Raman microscopy is a label-free chemically-selective technique with widespread applications in biomedical and materials imaging. Despite significant technological developments, there are various long-standing issues: lack of (i) penetration depth, (ii) superresolution, and (iii) high-speed spectral imaging. Our group has been at the forefront of these challenges, harnessing the emergence of computational microscopy methods. A particularly challenging setting is that of battery materials. Batteries are sustainable solutions for the current energy crisis, with significant research devoted to developing novel enhanced battery materials. Such research imposes high demands in optical imaging because of its high refractive index, chemically heterogeneous environments, and fast dynamics. We have recently started to address some of these issues in close collaboration with experts on battery research from Collège de France/Paris, in particular exploiting the high-speed chemical imaging capabilities powered by computational methods. As the next step, we aim at bringing novel instrumental and computational developments dedicated to image emerging battery materials at unprecedented speeds, resolution, and depths. For that, we will build upon the computational Raman imaging framework we have been developing. This is part of the 4-year Horizon Europe project aiming at unraveling charging phenomena in operando conditions of battery materials.Positions Available: Various PhD/Post-doc positions are open. Regardless of the position applied for, the candidate must be ambitious and highly motivated, with a particular taste for optics and interdisciplinary research.Qualifications:For the PhD position: A degree in Physics or a closely related area. For the Post-Doc position: A PhD in Physics, Physical Chemistry, or a closely related area (e.g., Signal Processing, Materials Science), along with independence at the organizational and scientific level and aspirations to supervise. Programming skills are compulsory.Contract Duration:The PhD position is for 3 years. The Post-Doc is for a 2-year contract (with the possibility of renewal). Both positions include all social benefits in France (health care, pension system, unemployment aid, etc.). The Post-doc gross salary will vary depending on experience. The position is to start as soon as possible but will remain open until suitable candidates are found.
