The Paris Brain Institute is hiring A Research engineer (F/H) Due date : january 2nd, 2025 _ 18 months temporary contract ( CDD)_ At Paris 13th The Paris Brain Institute is a private foundation recognized as a public utility, dedicated to fundamental and clinical research on the nervous system. On a single site, over 800 researchers, engineers and doctors covering all neurological disciplines, and a Start Up incubator within the institute, work together to accelerate discoveries about how the brain works, and the development of treatments for diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, ALS, epilepsy, depression, paraplegia, tetraplegia, etc. The engineer will be responsible for developing new service offer of the Paris Brain Institute’s electrophysiologcal core facility (ePHYS). The ePHYS core facility offers a range of services for the functional study and characterization of various preclinical models (primary neuron cultures, brain slices, hIPSC-derived organoids, rodents). Within the scope of scientific projects, our facility plays a crucial role, from experimental design to user training. The facility is equipped with various electrophysiological devices, providing a diverse range of services to research teams (e.g., patch clamp, MEA, CMOS HD-MEA, EEG & EMG). To expand its offerings, we aim to acquire a new system for measuring the activity of large neuronal populations in freely moving murine models using fiber photometry. Your Profile We are looking for an engineer with expertise in animal experimentation, particularly in fiber photometry and electrophysiology in small animals. Job Description The engineer will be responsible for setting up the new fiber photometry station and carry out experiments for the Paris Brain Institute’s research teams. Main Responsibilities Implement the in vivo fiber photometry assay Design experimental protocols and perform stereotaxic surgeries on rodents Develop strategies for simultaneous recordings using fiber photometry and electrophysiology (e.g., EEG and Multichannel Silicone Probe) Train and provide support to users Plan and carry out experiments to address the needs of the projects, data analyze, interpret, and present experimental data- Ensure technological monitoring and develop R&D projects Develop and coordinate projects related to animal experimentation Required Profile Engineering degree, Master’s, or PhD in biophysics, bioengineering, or neuroscience. Certification in animal experimentation (designer level) and surgical techniques. Expertise in electrophysiology and/or fiber photometry. Minimum experience: 2 years. Know-How Proficiency in data analysis software and programming skills (MATLAB, Python). Knowledge and experience with techniques for measuring and analyzing electrical and optical signals. Ability to train and supervise users. Ensure the maintenance and proper functioning of laboratory equipment. Write detailed reports and present scientific results. Troubleshot problems Contribute to the practical and timely delivery of data of the highest quality Fluent in English Soft skills Scientific rigor, autonomy, and initiative. Ability to work in a team and manage several projects simultaneously. Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary research teams.
