Research Scientist in Machine Learning and Optimization

The Optimization with Learning team is hiring a full-time researcher. Applications from research scientists at any level or career stage are welcome. The Optimization with Learning team conducts research at the intersection of machine learning and mathematical optimization. We aim at leveraging deep neural networks to learn tailored heuristics for challenging optimization problems. In particular, we develop generic foundational models capable of solving a variety of NP-hard combinatorial problems. Our applications are related to the routing and scheduling of robot fleets for various robotics services. We are especially interested in dealing with the uncertainty that arises in such real-life multi-robot coordination problems. The team works closely with other groups at Naver Labs, including robotics teams at Naver Labs Korea. We also publish some of our research in machine learning and AI conferences. Recent publications include: GOAL (arXiv 24), MAPF-IPP (ECAI 24), BQ-NCO (NeurIPS 23), Meta-NCO (ECML-PKDD 22). Required skills PhD in machine learning, optimization or a related field Solid background in sequential decision making Expertise in deep learning, preferably in the context of sequential decision making Excellent programming skills in Python and proficiency in PyTorch A track record of research excellence, with contributions to major conferences and journals in the fields of machine learning and optimization The ability to work efficiently in multi-disciplinary projects with researchers and engineers of various backgrounds Application instructions You can apply for this position online.
