Ideally you will have extensive UK Rail experience and looking to develop your career as the technical lead, manage design processes and support bids for our growing business.ResponsibilitiesAs a Head of Discipline within your discipline you will be accountable for:Management of your discipline on projectsEnsure compliance with the relevant lifesaving rulesProactively review design documentation to ensure construction risks are mitigated at the design stageReview and sign off the relevant safety documentation as required (CPP/WPP/TB)Review, evaluate and implement rail industry standards to ensure compliance of the engineering deliverables to the standards (quality)Brief the engineering team as necessary on standard updatesMaintain and develop competency of the engineering team within your discipline, including:Competency assessmentProfessional reviewsTraining planGuidance and mentoring to junior engineers/team membersSupport the senior team in growing the technical capability of the discipline/businessPromote sustainable design and developmentEncourage innovationCapitalize on the acquired know-how to share it across projectsYou will also work on:Bidding opportunities across the UK and International Rail business: to support the growth of revenue and capability of ETS Engineering DirectorateProjects for multiple commissions across the UK and International Rail businessWhen working on bids and projects, as Head of Discipline you will act as:Bid Lead (CDPO)/ Project Director for some specific assignmentsTechnical Lead / CEM for Network Rail, or Third Party rail projects with overall accountability for all engineering activities and outputs on the projects (reporting to a Project Director)ProfileSkills and Experience10-15+ years of experience in Engineering / Technical functions, with at least 5 years’ experience as a CEM / CRE / System Integrator / Design ManagerExcellent knowledge of railway infrastructure, systems, and operating requirementsExcellent management skills with the ability to support, mentor and animate a team of engineers and techniciansSignificant experience of developing and implementing strategies for projects and programmesExcellent understanding of rail engineering, including Network Rail and associated rail standards, and related regulations (CDM, CSM, RIR)Proven capability in managing design for rail, especially in multi-disciplinary environmentsExcellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage key stakeholders and suppliersExcellent engineering, analytical and problem-solving abilitiesYOU MUST HAVE THE RIGHT TO WORK IN THE UKBSc or similar in Bachelor Degree (BEng, BSc) in a Numerate, Scientific or Engineering subject or Higher Education/equivalent training and experience.Chartered Engineer status from a recognised institutionRelevant experience in the design, specification and procurement of infrastructure, tram/metro design preferablyWide knowledge of the rail environment appreciatedExperience of managing a multi-disciplinary teamKnowledge of QAWhat’s in it for you:By joining Egis, as well as receiving a competitive salary, you’ll also have the opportunity to explore flexible working arrangements.27 days’ annual leave as well as bank holidaysAnnual BonusHealthcare – Individual or family based on employee levelLife Assurance Bereavement Support ServiceCycle to work SchemeEye Care Vouchers with SpecsaversTravel LoansWorkplace Nursery SchemeElectric Car SchemeTraining & DevelopmentEquality, Diversity & InclusionWe at EGIS are an Equal Opportunities employer and we recognise the value of a Diverse Organisation.
