GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: The School Counselor is responsible for providing academic and clinical support to Arlington School students as determined by the needs of the program. Depending on areas of expertise, the School Counselor will be expected to offer tutorial help in academic subjects, as well as to independently develop and implement school initiatives that foster continuous school growth. The School Counselor will function as an Academic Advisor to a small group of students to work on issues of Executive Function and academic organization. Tasks of the School Counselor can also include covering a class in a teacher’s absence, working 1:1 with students to foster academic success, providing incidental counseling to students as requested by licensed counselors or administrative staff and collaborating in the provision of Physical Education activities for students. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Support teachers in implementation of curriculum instruction Support teachers in maintaining a safe and nurturing environment Co-teach elective classes in areas of mutual interest Provide independent Academic Advising for small groups of students Independently manage projects for school improvement, as assigned Assist with clinical groups with clinical staff Facilitate students’ transitions between classes and throughout the building Supervise classes during teachers’ absences Model appropriate social cues and body language Participate and share information in meetings Perform additional duties as assigned Be responsive to issues presented in supervision Exhibit positive behavior towards students, parents, and staff Maintain a commitment to professional growth and competency Make accommodations as necessary for students’ special needs Supervise students in all school locations, as needed QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with adolescents with complex mental health issues, preferred SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: Ability to collaborate to implement accommodations for students inside and outside the classroom EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree, preferred WORKING CONDITIONS: Small, private special education High school #J-18808-Ljbffr
